Common Questions
Everything our private clients ask about 3M Prestige film, installation, warranties, and long-term care.
Window film is a multi-layered polyester (PET) laminate, micro-thin and optically clear, bonded to the interior surface of existing glass. The 3M Prestige and Ceramic series we install use spectrally-selective nano-ceramic and metallic layers that reject infrared heat and ultraviolet radiation while letting visible light pass — so your view stays intact.
3M invented modern window film in 1966 and continues to set the optical and durability benchmark the industry chases. Prestige Series films use over 200 alternating layers of polymer (no metal) so they will never corrode, never interfere with cellular, GPS, or radar signals, and carry a manufacturer-backed lifetime warranty on residential applications. We are accredited installers — the film is only as good as the hand that lays it.
No. Prestige and high-performance ceramic films can reject up to 97% of infrared heat and 99.9% of UV while transmitting 70%+ of visible light. From inside, the view is unchanged; from outside, glare is killed. Darker aesthetic options exist for privacy or automotive applications when you want them.
A typical residential estate is completed in one to three days depending on glass count and pane geometry. Marine, aviation, and automotive engagements are scheduled around your calendar, often on-site at your dock, hangar, or private residence. We protect every adjacent surface, work clean, and remove all packaging when we leave.
Yes. Every film we install rejects 99.9% of UV-A and UV-B — the primary driver of fading in hardwoods, fine art, textiles, leather, and cabinetry. Combined with infrared rejection, you slow the full fading equation (UV + visible light + heat) and dramatically extend the life of your interior assets.
Not when specified correctly. We match film type to your specific glass build-up — annealed, tempered, low-E, or laminated — using 3M's published thermal-stress charts. Improper film selection by an untrained installer is the leading cause of seal failure; that is precisely the risk our credentialing eliminates.
Wait 30 days for the adhesive to fully cure, then clean with a soft cloth or microfiber and any non-ammonia glass cleaner — or simply mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive pads and ammonia-based cleaners. With proper care your film stays optically perfect for the life of the warranty.
3M Prestige films carry a manufacturer's lifetime warranty for residential installations and 15 years for commercial — covering bubbling, peeling, cracking, delamination, and demetalization. We honor that warranty in full and back our own installation craftsmanship for the life of the film.
Security and safety films don't make glass unbreakable — they hold shattered glass in the frame. A would-be intruder must defeat the film and the laminate before gaining entry, buying critical seconds and visible deterrence. In storm and blast scenarios, the same bond keeps lethal shards from becoming projectiles.
Yes. Our regional atelier is the Northern New York Architectural Hub serving the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Archipelago, and the Adirondack High Peaks — but our marine, aviation, and private-client teams deploy nationwide by private engagement. Call 336-807-3560 to discuss your project.
